This post was meant to be a recipe for Yule Log - that’s what was in my schedule on Trello. Then I realised the photos I have of my Yule Log are all quite old, so I needed to make another to video and photograph.
However, I thought that was a bit predictable. I mean, it’s December. Yule Log is just a bit obvious. So instead of making another Yule Log, I put my thinking cap on to find an alternative option. One that was as equally festive, but also like a warm hug of a cake.
I have been making Cinnamon Buns every weekend for The Cake Shed. A comforting, warm hug of a pastry. So I put the 2 together, and what we have today is the baby of a Yule Log and a Cinnamon Bun.
I used my classic Yule Log Recipe as I know it’s always a winner. I make a Yule Log for my family every Christmas and probably could make it with my eyes shut. Instead of Cocoa I added Cinnamon to the mix. I then made sure the outside was covered in a delicious cinnamon sugar mix, and the inside was filled with light Vanilla Buttercream.
To be honest, I probably overfilled it as it didn’t really swirl when I rolled it the second time. But as I think there isn’t really a thing as too much buttercream, I left it how it was.
I topped with extra buttercream - just for good measure.
I cut a huge chunk off for the photographs, which my husband and I polished off. And genuinely, I think this is the best thing I’ve baked this year!
